Our campaign stands with the policies and movement for Black Lives. It is our responsibility to create comprehensive and holistic policies which engage in restorative justice programs, not the criminalization of human beings. Healing over incarceration, dialogues over force.

Black Lives Matter

Black Lives Matter "is an affirmation of Black folk's contribution to this society, our humanity, and our resilience in the face of deadly oppression." - Alicia Garza, BLM co-founder.

Until we can systematically address racism within the city of Los Angeles, we cannot stop saying Black Lives Matter.

District13 stands in solidarity with the Movement's entire Platform (read here) and will do everything to empower and enact true, thoughtful, holistic change within the community.

Police & Citizens Coalition

The United States has more people in prison than any other nation in the world; we have the highest per-capita prison population in the world. According to the NAACP, the US houses 5% of the population of the world and houses 25% of world prisoners. African Americans constitute 1 million of the 2.3 million incarcerated population- 6 times the rates of whites. 1 in every 6 African-American men will be incarcerated, 1 in every 100 African-American women will.

Criminal Justice practices in Dutch countries prioritize rehabilitation over incarceration. We will end for-profit prisons in LA City and make sure our facilities have the active intention of rehabilitation back into the community.

To truly address and bring justice to Los Angeles residents, we must invest in our impoverished neighborhoods. We must reform our education system, assure our residents can work, eat healthy food, have access to clean water, and ensure that children have access to community organizations which promote art and creativity. We must support the parents & youth of our communities so that we eradicate neglect, which leads to hateful behavior.

We must also, however, reform our police and judicial system. We must legalize marijuana. We must actively engage with police officers who have every intention to protect and serve while making certain the leadership of our police force is of, by, and for the community first and foremost. Our police will protect and serve The People before The State.

We will develop a Citizens Coalition in CD13 which will directly interact with LAPD, creating events and opportunities for our police to interact with our residents.

Gentrification is the bulldozing of family businesses and disrespecting of residents who have grown up in our district and city. We can welcome new business opportunities and investments while respecting and honoring what is currently in place and what came before.

Front Line Communities of Los Angeles

CD13 stands in solidarity with communities most affected by gentrification and environmental destruction. We will hear you. We will serve you.

Native Culture / Identity / Honor

We will develop a district understanding of our history; honoring our past, the residents who still remain and how we can, as one community, envision the district for the future.
